What it costs
Nothing to start. We take 2.7% of each donation — and nothing at all from a donation the donor tipped on, however small the tip. The card companies and the bank take their own small share of each one, and all of it is shown below.
Paid by card
A Nigerian card. One issued abroad is charged 4.8% instead of 1.4% + ₦100.

Common questions
So how does Breadfund make money?
Two ways, and only one of them applies to any given donation. If the donor adds a tip for us, we take that and nothing else from their gift. If they do not, we take 2.7% of it. Either way it is one small share of each donation, and there is nothing else.
A tip really cancels the fee, however small?
Yes. Any tip at all and our 2.7% is not charged on that donation. A donor who tips is covering us themselves, so there is no reason to take it from you as well.
Can the card fee be avoided?
Yes — a donor who pays from their banking app rather than with a card is not charged it. The tile sits on the checkout beside the card one. Our own 2.7% works the same either way, and is still waived if they tip.
Who pays the card fee?
It comes out of the donation. If somebody gives ₦10,000 with a Nigerian card and adds no tip, ₦9,465 reaches you: ₦240 to the card companies, ₦270 to us, and ₦25 to pay it into your bank. Donors see what they are giving before they pay.
What if I do not reach my goal?
You keep everything raised. Nothing is sent back and nothing extra is charged.
Is there a fee to take the money out?
There is nothing to take out — each donation is paid into your bank account as it arrives, the next working day. Our payment provider charges a small amount to make that payment: ₦10 on amounts up to ₦5,000, ₦25 up to ₦50,000, ₦50 above that, and a flat GH₵10 in Ghana. It goes to them, not to us. This is separate from how the donor chose to pay in.
What if somebody gives from abroad?
A card issued outside the country your fund pays out in is charged 4.8% rather than the usual rate — not on top of it. That is the card networks’ cross-border charge, not ours, and the donation still reaches you in your own money.
Does a charity pay anything different?
No. A fund raised for a verified charity is paid into the charity’s own account on the same terms.
